4 Tips to Nurture New Business Relationships
Posted on April 08, 2025
As Solopreneurs and Small Business owners, we meet numerous people weekly on social media, virtual or in person events. You left the event feeling inspired. You met great people, had promising conversations, and felt that spark of possibility.
But here’s the thing, connections fade fast without follow-up. Turning a new contact into a client isn’t about luck—it’s about strategy and consistency. The secret sauce to growing your business isn’t just who you meet—it’s how you follow up. Here are four post-networking tasks to keep the momentum going and build real business relationships. This will help you stay top of mind and stand out.
Most entrepreneurs leave opportunities on the table simply because they don’t follow up effectively. The magic doesn’t happen at the event; it happens after. If you want those friendly “hellos” to turn into paying clients or valuable collaborations, you have to be intentional with these tasks.
1. Send a Personalized Follow-Up Message Within 48 Hours
A timely, thoughtful message sets the tone for your new relationship. Keep it short and sincere—“It was great connecting with you at [event]. I really enjoyed our conversation about [specific topic].” Mention something specific you discussed to jog their memory. Use their preferred communication method (email, LinkedIn) for a personal touch.
2. Connect on Social Media
Social media lets you interact in real-time. These small interactions build rapport and deepen the connection. Send a quick message when you connect: “Great meeting you at [event]!” Engage with their content, congratulate them on wins, or simply cheer them on. Post a recap of the event on your own profile and shout out a few people you met.
3. Schedule a One-on-One Conversation
Relationships don’t deepen in crowded rooms—they grow in quiet conversations. Invite your new contact to a short virtual coffee chat. Be clear on your intention: “I’d love to learn more about your business and see how we might support one another.” Ask questions about their current goals or challenges. Resist pitching—focus on building rapport and uncovering ways you can serve them.
4. Add them to your CRM or Contact Follow-Up System
Don't let them forget you exist, stay in touch. Ask if they'd like to be added to your email list. Share how your content brings value. Ask if they would like to be contacted for future checkins. Follow up a few weeks later with a new resource or quick check-in to stay top of mind.
Networking isn’t just about meeting people or collecting business cards—it’s about cultivating real relationships. When you take the time to follow up with purpose, you don’t just build a network—you build a pipeline of possibility.
Things I Can't Live Without: Lemon Squeezer
It's starting to get real hot here in Florida. Citrus season is in full swing, and fresh lemons are everywhere. With the weather warming up, homemade lemonade is a must, and a lemon squeezer makes it quick and easy to enjoy every drop.
I enjoy making the lemonade, but my five-year-old son enjoys using the lemon squeezer more. This has now become a weekly routine for my son and I.
