Your mornings are spent replying to emails, squeezing in a quick social media post, rescheduling two meetings, and digging through Google Drive to find an old client file. By lunchtime, you hadn’t touched your top priorities—and were already drained.
I’ve been there too and had to do this instead.
Five common time-wasters that eat your productivity and what you should be doing instead.
1. Checking Email All Day Long
Constantly checking emails breaks focus and leads to reactive work. Instead: Set 2–3 specific times a day to check and respond to emails, and use folders/filters to prioritize them for quicker response.
2. Scheduling Your Own Meetings
This takes too long to go back and forth about availability. Instead: Use a scheduling tool like Calendly or TidyCal that lets clients book time based on your availability. It saves hours and eliminates double bookings.
3. Creating Graphics or Social Media Posts From Scratch
This is a time drain unless content creation is your business. Instead: Use templates or repurpose existing content.
4. Handling Repetitive Admin Tasks Yourself
Things like data entry, file management, or organizing docs can consume hours. Instead: Automate what you can and delegate the rest. Your time should be spent on strategy and income-generating tasks.
5. Multitasking
Why it’s a problem: You’re less efficient and more prone to mistakes. Instead: Try time-blocking and focus on one task at a time.
Bonus Tip: You don’t need to work more hours—you need to protect the hours you already have.
